Overview Rarely a day passes where I do not interact with a client asking about how to leverage SQL services in Azure. There are many reasons why I have these conversations: Older SQL server instances such as 2008/2005/2000 are either out of support or ending soon (SQL Server 2008 SP4 is currently supported but it is in Extended Support mode).
Setting the Stage I believe everyone will agree that cloud technology has been and will continue to be disruptive to businesses and consumers. Creative people are finding new ways each day to deliver new business services faster and with less investment. Gartner and many other thought leaders at the intersection of business and technology both advocate and recognize that “Cloud First” is a dominant strategy right now for many organizations.
In the previous installment, which can be found here, we covered the Snowball Edge, a new piece of hardware designed to meet the needs of businesses that require some form of on premise storage. Today, we will be rounding out our overview of the conference’s events with a couple of additional software products and a wrap up of the event as a whole. VMWare on AWS This new offering is a native, fully managed VMware environment on the AWS Cloud that can be accessed on an hourly, on-demand basis or in subscription form.
